Don't Mess With My Babies!

Today I'm gonna talk about my sweet (some of the time) girl dog, Timbit, or Princess as we call her most of the time. If you have read the *Our Story* section of our blog you'll know that my Timbit is a Siberian husky who had a short career as a sled dog (do read her story to explain why her career was *short* LOL). I am positive she is much happier in her current role as Dog Bed Warmer and the Dog toy hoarder, the latter being my topic for this post. My Princess LOVES her *babies*!!!
One of the many Christmas Bears she's stolen.
When Bruce (her former owner) brought her to me, he called her a toy hoarder. I didn't quite understand what he was talking about off course, until she'd lived with us for some time. We call them her *babies* as she's really like a little mother. She will wander about the house (usually at night or when no one is home) in stealth mode and pick up random stuffies, they don't always need to be a *dog toy* in fact I think she prefers them to not be, then she carries them back to her bed, till she has a nice pile of stuffies, bones, socks, chews, slippers.... and then she lays on them and when you ask her what she's doing... she wont make eye contact... like this picture below.
"I have nothing... I don't know WHAT you're talking about"
Once I came home from the liquor store, it was at Christmas time, and I always buy their Christmas bears. One goes to the Children's hospital and the other you keep. I LOVE them as they are always SO soft, and I have them all displayed over the TV on the light fixture.
All those bears.... so far out of her reach... I am SO MEAN!
Anyhow, I had just walked in the house, and set the bag on the floor, you could not see that there was anything other than the bottle of Bailey's I buy for my mother every year in there. BUT .... Somehow... SHE KNEW!!! I turned around and she had the new bear out of the bag and on her bed with her already! It ALMOST broke my heart to take it back.... good thing I'd bought another for her eh?? ;o)
Here she is with a brown bear she's taken from my son
And here she is trying to hide her brother's bone she stole, and get the other 2 babies on the bed with her as well.
Just a fun little story about my Princess. It's cute, but it does get nasty at times as she is really not very fond of her newest brother and so now she has taken to *saving* her bones and treats to just taunt him with. He, Thank Goodness, is afraid of her so he wont try to take it away from her, which is good as I wouldn't want to break up that fight.  But she is now getting into some trouble cause she is just being mean. The little brat!

Thanks for reading along.
Go hug your dog... and make sure all your *babies* are safe. ;o)

Dog Dreams

It's that time of year here in the Cariboo, when the wildlife are fattening themselves up. Therefore there is always a rash of cougar and bear sightings around us. Cougars are generally a bit more rare then our black bear friends, but all the more scary for their stealth.

Here is where I get off topic for a moment on Cougars, feel free to skip this paragraph:
I personally find Cougars and all the large cat species to be a gorgeous creation of nature and just cry every time I hear of one being destroyed.... even the word... *destroyed* .... seems wrong to me... it's like they're hiding the fact that they are KILLING them. Just say it for crying out loud, trying to disguise that we're not is not helping. I know they are dangerous, will kill us and our children and fur babies given the chance. I am not saying that some of the cats may need to be killed due to their aggression towards humans, I just wish more effort was made to relocate them, and/or just observe them from afar to see if they are in fact a danger or are just stalking some deer in the area. The whole thing just makes me sad.

Back to my story.... We (my family and furkids) live in a rural part of town, so we are constantly surrounded by wildlife, one of the reasons I love where we live. We have eagles resting in our trees, deer continually wandering thru to get to the lake, bears, and even a Moose and her calf one rare and wonderful day.
Our Back Yard
To be honest, we don't have as much wildlife hanging about as I would sometimes like as the RACKET made by the 2 of the 3 dogs most of them have found other places to hang out. Which I suppose is good and bad. Good as I have never seen or had one of my babies threatened by anything... but bad because... well I'd love to see them.
They never stick around long enough to be served dinner!
Anyhow... do I have a point? Not a major one... this whole post was started as I had a dream. LOL Yes, a dream! At a large family gathering, a scared bear appeared, and when the CHILDREN of the gathering tried to scare the animal away I went running to save them (SO glad that in my subconscious I was SAVING the children.... LOL) they succeeded in scaring the bear, directly towards ME! When the bear reached me, feeling cornered it attacked me. And when my dog, my sweet puppy Dozer, tried to save me, I pulled him off the bear and tried to get him into the house away from the Bear, so I could save HIM from the bear. Yes! There's a great idea, lets put the animal possibly capable of fighting off the large incredibly strong wild animal and let him maul you to death..... I really think I may need to see someone, someone with a mental health back ground.

Now, who knows how I would truly handle the situation, and I hope I never have to discover it for real. My husband shakes his head at me in disbelief but I am pretty sure I would die trying to save my fur-babies...any one of them. I know I am not alone in this intense love and protectiveness I feel for my furry kids, but I do sometimes think I take it a little too far.
Hope I've made you smile today.
Go hug your dog!

It's Only the Beginning...

First post.... what to write about? Seems strange to jump right into one particular story/incident/problem/behavior when I haven't really said much of anything about us except in the *Our Story* As I write this.... I am sitting in a quiet room, and wow... believe me when I say this is a RARE occurance around here and one of my biggest headaches of the moment... getting these dogs to settle down and be quiet. So I guess that's what I want to say, what this blog is about. It really is just a place for me to *talk* about my dogs, and the craziness they have brought to my world. It seems all I do anymore is care for them. I am trying to make sure Tonka (the oldest and *for the moment* heaviest of the bunch) gets all the love he thinks he needs, while trying to keep Princess Timbit from actually hurting the new pain in her arse, Dozer. Tonka and Dozer are BEST friends, have been since I brought the big guy in the house, as Tonka really is just a puppy at heart. Timbit, well, she would rather not have any brothers at all! In her perfect world she would have all dog beds, toys, chews, food, people, etc to herself and not have to share at all!! (who can blame her really? I mean isn't that the definition of Princess? And that is what I call her most of the time. LOL )
Anyhow, from the moment I get up in the morning my day goes something like this:
* Stumble down hallway, trying to protect bare feet from 100+lb horse like dogs clumsy feet, to let the 3 mutts outside before they pee somewhere for me to step in later... all while trying to cross my own legs and not pee myself (getting harder and harder to do as I age I might add!)
*Rush to bathroom myself....only to be told off by 1 or both cats... they would like some treats while the dogs are not inside to barge in and steal their cookies.... or they just want attention. Who knows.
*Stumble back down hallway.... REALLY need some coffee... but oh wait, cat is tripping me I'm at their treat cupboard... oh and while I'm bent over I see the water dish is empty, fill that. crap dishes need doing still... Oh! The dogs are back at the window... The Saint Bernard likes to jump on the glass, I have paw and nose prints all the way to the top to prove it.
*Now that they have peed, they are SO HAPPY TO SEE ME!!! Timbit bounces and tries to lick any part of me she can reach, Tonka shoves his way to me barking and wagging that baseball bat of a tail he has, and Dozer, well he's jumping and his wrecking ball like feet scratch and bruise any part of me I can't get away from him as I tell him a firm NO and show him my back. (it is working... he is jumping up less and less... but as any training book will tell you you have to have patience and stick at it!! And Oh I am! I refuse to give him any attention till he is calm and all feet on floor! in the meantime tho... I myself look like the abuse victim).
*OK, enough of this, I need more clothes on to protect my poor body from dog feet, claws, tails, tongues and ears!! (yes, even those hurt when slapped against a bare thigh), all 3 of them come with me to the bedroom to change. Timbit to find a stuffy, a sock, a toy, or one of the other dogs bones to drag back to her permanent spot on her bed... the other 2 monsters to start a Wrestling match worthy of the UFC at my feet. *sigh* there goes alittle more skin and well, now my pants are covered in dog hair and drool.... Why have I not had any coffee yet?!?
*Dogs continue battle royal at my feet, and then down the hallway as I head back to the kitchen for some much needed caffeine, they have to travel and wrestle as heaven forbid EITHER of them let me out of their sight! They bounce off the walls in the hallway, I'm sure one day they will go right thru one of them. But as I near the kitchen, I pass the dog food bin... Holy Hannah... now they think it's breakfast time!!!
** I JUST NEED COFFEE!!!

So that is just an introduction to the craziness. :) Please tell me some of you can relate!?!?
